Four Fluffy New Faces (and a Little Bit of Healing)
By Ashley Schausten
The house has been too quiet, and then suddenly it wasn't. Because four little fluffballs just moved in and they have absolutely no interest in being quiet.
Meet the crew: Chance, a long-haired black and white boy with the softest, most ridiculous coat you've ever buried your face in. And his two brothers, Chip and Gamble — both orange and white, both long-haired, both convinced they are the main character. Then there's Stella, a stunning little calico with markings so perfectly split down the middle that she looks almost like a chimera. Almost-chimera calico, and one hundred percent gorgeous.

Bunny hoppers, all four of them
If you've never watched a fluffy kitten move, you're missing out. These guys don't walk — they bounce. They hop around like little rabbits, all four paws leaving the ground at once, tails up, ears forward, absolutely certain they're flying. Chance does it across the whole room like he's got somewhere important to be. Chip and Gamble do it side by side, like they're in a race neither of them is winning. Stella does it in short little bursts, then stops and looks at you like she planned the whole thing.
It is, honestly, the best thing I've watched in weeks. And I needed it.
They eased the sting of losing Dexter
I wrote last week about losing Dexter, and about the side of this work that nobody posts about. I meant every word of it. I'm still grieving him. I think I will be for a while.
But here's the other side of that same coin: sometimes, right when you need it, the universe drops four tiny fluffy distractions into your living room and dares you to stay sad. These four have done that. They've filled the quiet. They've filled the empty spots on the cat tree. They've given my hands something to do and my heart somewhere to put all of that love that had nowhere to go.
That doesn't replace Dexter. Nothing does. But it does remind me why I keep going — because there are always more of them, and every single one deserves the same shot he got.
From feral to friendly in about a week
You want to know the wildest part? A week ago these four wanted nothing to do with me. Feral little things, hissing, hiding, scrambling away from a hand. Standard operating procedure around here.
And now? Now they climb my leg for attention. Now they purr the second I walk in the room. Now Stella flops over on her back and demands belly rubs like she's been a house cat her whole life. A week. That's all it took — a warm room, full bellies, and somebody patient enough to sit there and let them figure out that people are good.
That's the thing about feral kittens. They've got so much potential it's almost unfair. All they needed was a chance. And that's not just a cute name for one of them — it's the whole point.
Coming to their forever homes in about a month
These four will be ready to go to their forever families in about a month — once they've grown a little more, put on the weight, and finished their vetting. And yes, I'll say what everyone is already thinking: that timing lines up almost perfectly with the holidays.
If you've been waiting for the right moment to add a kitten to your family, this might be it. A spunky, bouncy, fluffy kitten who has already learned that people mean warmth and food and love is the kind of gift that keeps giving for the next fifteen years. And there's no better present than a heartbeat.
A few things I'd gently say about that: kittens are a fifteen-year commitment, not a surprise for someone who isn't ready. Adopting a pair is often easier than one, because they keep each other busy and happy. And if a kitten under the tree is the plan, please let it be a real, thought-out decision made with the whole household — that's how these guys end up in homes that last.
Want to meet Chance, Chip, Gamble, or Stella? Keep an eye on our Adoptable Pets page — their listings are coming, and applications are open now. These four are going to make some family very, very lucky.
Welcome home, little fluff squad. You got here just in time.
