Our Rescue Process
How a Kitten Finds Home
From the moment a kitten arrives to the day they go home, every step is built around one goal: giving them the safest path to a long, happy life. Here's how it works.
- 1
Rescue & Intake
Kittens come to us from overcrowded shelters, accidental litters, and the streets. Each one is assessed for health, age, and temperament the moment they arrive.
- 2
Foster Home
Instead of a cage, every kitten goes to a loving foster home — a quiet, safe space where they heal, grow, and learn to trust people before anything else.
- 3
Medical Care
We provide a full vet check, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, and spay/neuter surgery. Any illness or injury is treated until the kitten is healthy.
- 4
Meet & Greet
Once an adoption application is approved, adopters meet the kitten in the foster home. We help make sure it's the right fit for everyone — two legs and four.
- 5
Adoption
A small adoption fee ($65 kitten, $75 pair, $55 adult, $35 senior) helps cover a fraction of the veterinary care each cat received. Paperwork is signed, and the kitten goes home with their new family.
- 6
Lifetime Support
We check in after adoption and stay available for questions, advice, and resources. Our families are part of the Calico Hearts community for life.
